Color‐Pure Organic Luminophores: Characteristics, Definitions, Physical Basis and Fundamental Design Principles

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Color‐pure all‐organic emitters, i.e., with narrow spectral characteristics, are intensively studied for high‐definition organic LEDs and multi‐color bioimaging. In order to guide targeted materials design, this educative review discusses spectral characteristics, proper definitions and units, and the physical basis of spectral broadening, to distill ...

Total synthesis of elansolids B1 and B2

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2017
The elansolids A1–A3, B1, and B2 are secondary metabolites formed by the gliding bacterium Chitinophaga sancti. They show antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria.

Polyenes and vision

open access: yesChemistry & Biology, 1996
Polyenes are important for vision in all sighted species. The visual pigments (the rhodopsins) all use 11-cis-retinal as the chromophore; some possible reasons for the importance of this isomer are now emerging. New results on the involvement of xanthophils in the maintenance of the retina are also discussed.

TOPOLOGIA DOS ORBITAIS MOLECULARES DE POLIENOS PARA DEDUZIR ENERGIAS RELATIVAS E AVALIAR AROMATICIDADE

open access: yesQuímica Nova
A didactic alternative approach is proposed for deducing the molecular orbital topology of acyclic and cyclic polyenes and then evaluating their bonding, antibonding, and nonbonding character.

1-Aryl-F-1,3-butadienes and Unsymmetrical α,ω-Diaryl-F-polyenes

open access: yes, 2016
Para-substituted 1-aryl-F-1,3-butadiene derivatives p-R-C6H4-CFCFCFCF2 (2a−g), where R = H, CH3, OCH3, OC6H11, N(CH3)2, Br, and CF3, have been prepared by reaction of appropriate arylmagnesium bromides with F-1,3-butadiene.

A Review of Antifungals and their Mono- and Combination- therapy in the Treatment of Invasive Fungal Infections [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Kerman University of Medical Sciences, 2016
Invasive fungal infections with high mortality rate are a growing health concern in hospitals and medical centers. The infection usually occurs in people with compromised immune systems.

Amphotericin B Specifically Induces the Two-Component System LnrJK: Development of a Novel Whole-Cell Biosensor for the Detection of Amphotericin-Like Polyenes

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
The rise of drug-resistant fungal pathogens urges for the development of new tools for the discovery of novel antifungal compounds. Polyene antibiotics are potent agents against fungal infections in humans and animals.

Enzyme-like polyene cyclizations catalyzed by dynamic, self-assembled, supramolecular fluoro alcohol-amine clusters

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Terpene cyclases enable the synthesis of (poly)cyclic carbon frameworks via ring closure of linear polyenes. Here, the authors report in-situ formed fluorinated-alcohol-amine supramolecular clusters that mimic terpene cyclases for shape-controlled ...

Quasiparticle Excitations in Polyenes and Polyacetylene

open access: yes, 1987
We apply the Pariser-Parr-Pople Hamiltonian to study many-electron excitations in polyenes and polyacetylene. The excited singlet states of polyenes, calculated by a multireference double excitation expansion, are classified as quasi-particle excitations,
