Crack patterns in drying protein solution drops [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A deposited drop of bovine serum albumin salt solution experiences both gelation and fracturation during evaporation. The cracks appearing at the edge of the gelling drop are regularly spaced, due to the competition between the evaporation-induced and ...

In‐Situ Growth of 2D MOFs as a Molecular Sieving Layer on SnS2 Nanoflakes for Realizing Ultraselective H2S Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
The ultraselective H2S detection of the ZIF‐L/SnS2 heterostructure is demonstrated. The introduction of 2‐dimensional (2D) breathable ZIF‐L results in a substantial increase in H2S selectivity attributable to the molecular sieving effect, which impedes the permeation of gases with large kinetic diameters and high polarity.

A method for the visual detection of holes in thin polymeric films [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Back-lighting polymeric film with polarized light from a polarizing plate and viewing it through a second plate cross-polarized to the back-lighting provides visual contrast between the flaw and the transparent ...

2-(1-(2-Benzhydrylnaphthylimino)ethyl)pyridylnickel halides: Synthesis, characterization, and ethylene polymerization behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A series of 2-(1-(2-benzhydrylnaphthylimino)ethyl)pyridine derivatives (L1–L3) was synthesized and fully characterized. The organic compounds acted as bi-dentate ligands on reacting with nickel halides to afford two kinds of nickel complexes, either ...

Ultrahigh Piezoelectricity in Truss‐Based Ferroelectric Ceramics Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
By leveraging the unique combination of polarization direction and loading state, ultrahigh piezoelectricity is achieved through careful tuning of the relative density and scaling ratio in truss‐based ferroelectric metamaterials. This approach enables the simultaneous realization of extremely high piezoelectric constants and ultralow dielectric ...

Impact perforation of monolithic polyethylene plates: Projectile nose shape dependence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ductile thermoplastics, for example Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), are of interest for their impact energy absorbing capabilities. While the impact perforation mechanisms of metallic targets have been investigated in some detail, far ...

Engineering the Hierarchical Porosity of Granular Hydrogel Scaffolds Using Porous Microgels to Improve Cell Recruitment and Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
By fabricating and covalently assembling gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) porous microgels, a new class of granular hydrogel scaffolds with hierarchical porosity is developed. These scaffolds have a significantly higher void fraction than their counterparts made up of nonporous microgels, enhancing cell recruitment and tissue integration. This research may

Chromium complex pre-catalysts in ethylene oligomerization/polymerization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Recent progress of chromium complex pre-catalysts in ethylene oligomerization and polymerization is reviewed herein. As well as the well-established trimerization of ethylene by chromium catalytic systems, such pre-catalysts have more generally been ...
