Reduction of IV with LAH followed by Eschweiler‐Clarke methylation yielded the polyheterocyclic structure VI.

Reductive polyheterocyclization: A new approach to the synthesis of polyheteroarylenes
Polymer, 1984Abstract A new general approach to the synthesis of polyheteroarylenes by reductive polyheterocyclization, based on the reduction and cyclization of o -nitrosubstituted heterochain polymers has been reviewed. The synthetic possibilities of the method are demonstrated with a wide range of reactions.
