A review of developments in electrodes for regenerative polymer electrolyte fuel cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The design of electrodes for unitised regenerative polymer electrolyte fuel cells (URFC) requires a delicate balancing of transport media. Gas transport, electrons and protons must be carefully optimised to provide efficient transport to and from the ...

Powder‐to‐Film Conversion of Nickel Single‐Atom Catalysts into Binder‐Free and Resistant Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A reproducible strategy is reported for fabricating standalone thin‐film electrodes composed of CNx‐supported Ni single‐atom catalysts. The resulting binder‐free electrodes exhibit robust stability, enhanced charge transfer, and superior electrochemical performance, offering scalable opportunities for applications in electrochemistry. ABSTRACT Although

Defect‐Healed Au/rGO Coating for the Corrosion Protection of PEMFC Bipolar Plates

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A defect‐healed gold/reduced graphene oxide (Au/rGO) coating is presented for stainless steel bipolar plates in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. Gold nanoparticles nucleate at graphene oxide defects, blocking corrosive ion penetration and enhancing corrosion resistance, thereby ensuring durable fuel cell operation.

The Impact of Catalyst Layer Composition and Structure on Performance and Durability of PEMWE Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This article explores a new type of anode for water electrolysis that uses less iridium, a rare and expensive metal. By combining stable iridium oxide with platinum and carbon‐based materials, the authors create a catalyst layer that maintains strong performance.

Advanced Composite Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Membranes

open access: yesECS Proceedings Volumes, 1995
A new type of reinforced composite perfluorinated polymer electrolyte membrane, GORE-SELECT{trademark} (W.L. Gore & Assoc.), is characterized and tested for fuel cell applications. Very thin membranes (5-20 {mu}m thick) are available. The combination of reinforcement and thinness provides high membrane, conductances (80 S/cm{sup 2} for a 12 {mu}m thick
