3D Printed Polymer Vacuum Insulator

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2021
In this paper, through the application of 3D printing technology, insulators with different surface microstructures are prepared. Surface flashover test of the printed insulators shows that surface microstructures have a strong influence on the surface flashover voltage.

Polymer outdoor insulating materials. Part I: Comparison of porcelain and polymer electrical insulation

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1997
It is the objective of this series of articles, beginning in this issue, to review for users the benefits of polymer insulating materials. Material science, design, and processing conditions all influence performance and must be considered. Using silicone as an example, we will discuss performance considerations and present data on performance counter ...

A conductor/insulator/semiconductor polymer solar cell by an ultra-thin polymer insulator

Organic Electronics, 2010
In the letter, a conductor/insulator/semiconductor (CIS) polymer solar cell was demonstrated with higher performance and stability than standard polymer solar cell. The random copolymer, poly(styrene-co-methyl-methacrylate) (PS-r-PMMA), was used as the insulator.

Partial discharge degradation at insulating polymer-polymer interface

Proceedings of 1998 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials. 1998 Asian International Conference on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation. 30th Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials (IEEE Cat. No.98TH8286), 2002
In order to investigate partial discharge (PD) degradation in composite insulating systems such as a prefabricated cable joint (PJ), we proposed an electrode system to simulate PD degradation at a solid-solid interface. It was observed that the tree at the EPR-epoxy resin interface tended to propagate into the epoxy resin bulk, even though the ...

Contact charging of insulating polymers

Journal of Applied Physics, 1985
A new model of contact charging based on the change of interfacial dipole energy is proposed. The model can be used to explain the charge exchange between an insulating polymer and a metal with a thin interfacial oxide layer. The energy shift of the polymeric electronic states relative to the metal Fermi level can be associated with the change in ...

Polymer-Impregnated Concrete Insulators/Insulating Structures

2019 IEEE Electrical Insulation Conference (EIC), 2019
This paper deals with polymer-impregnated concrete (PIC). It is the precursor to the polymer concrete (PC) insulating material currently in vogue in the industry all over the world. Even though it is based on a hydraulic cement system, synergism with an imposed polymeric phase in its matrix has yielded a super dielectric and insulating structural ...

Microstructured metallization of insulating polymers

Electrochimica Acta, 2003
Abstract Direct Ni electrodeposition on insulating polymers by the so-called PLATO technique is studied and the application of this technique for microstructured metallization is investigated. Propagation behavior, surface morphology, conductivity and thickness of a deposited metal layer are characterized using microscopy, AFM, four-point ...

Partial discharges in polymer insulation

Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1982, 1982
Evolving power conditioning system requirements in many technological areas will place severe demands upon long-lived, repetitive, pulse-power components. A major pacing system component in this high reliability, repetitive pulse-power technology is the energy storage capacitor [1].

Polymer insulator test evaluation

PowerTech Budapest 99. Abstract Records. (Cat. No.99EX376), 2003
Nonceramic insulators consist of a fiberglass core rod, metal end fittings, and weathershed housing. The weathershed homing is made of a polymeric material. Since the weathershed materials may be subject in service to degradation of aging due to harsh environmental conditions, laboratory tests are used to evaluate their performance.
