Diagnostics of EPDM polymer insulators

1999 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (Cat. No.99CH36319), 2003
In this paper the application of pattern recognition techniques as a tool for diagnostics of ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM) polymer insulators is discussed. Assessment of degradation is carried out by taking small samples of insulator shed material in-situ with subsequent analysis of the samples by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)

Optical pre-breakdown warnings in insulating polymers

ICSD'98. Proceedings of the 1998 IEEE 6th International Conference on Conduction and Breakdown in Solid Dielectrics (Cat. No.98CH36132), 1999
Most of the models involving microscopic physical processes in electrical ageing and degradation and breakdown have very little experimental background and suffer from a lack of practical feedback. We have developed an experimental approach based on the detection and the analysis of electroluminescence (EL) of technically important insulating polymer ...

Accelerated aging of polymer insulators

Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2003
An accelerated aging investigation was performed on a variety of outdoor insulator materials. The materials were all commercial products fabricated using polymer bases including silicone rubber and EPDM. In this study the materials were subjected to synthetic acid rain solutions and aged on a tracking wheel.

Polymer insulated high voltage cables

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 2006
This article reviews the different components, conductors, semiconductive shields, insulation, sheaths, and jackets, that make up extruded, high-voltage cables. The different types of conductors are described as are the different insulation systems that are available for medium and HV cables.

Fractal analysis on insulation degradation of polymer insulation material

Proceedings of 2005 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials, 2005. (ISEIM 2005)., 2005
The characteristics of polymer insulation materials often degrade remarkably due to surface discharge. In order to detect the degradation, a lot of methods have been taken to measure the currents and to deal with the data. However, the methods are not very suitable in some cases. In order to find a better way to assess the performance of the insulation

Photoinduced Anisotropic Assembly of Conjugated Polymers in Insulating Polymer Blends

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2015
Low-dose UV irradiation of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT)-insulating polymer (polystyrene (PS) or polyisobutylene (PIB)) blend solutions led to the formation of highly ordered P3HT nanofibrillar structures in solidified thin films. The P3HT nanofibers were effectively interconnected through P3HT islands phase-separated from insulating polymer regions in

Research on Insulation Problems of the Polymer Insulated Busbar with Tape Winding Insulation

2020 IEEE 4th Conference on Energy Internet and Energy System Integration (EI2), 2020
The polymer insulated busbar is a new type of current carrying equipment which is being more and more widely used all over the world. The tape winding insulation polymer insulated busbar is one of the major types of this kind of equipment which uses winded PTFE or PET tape to form its insulation.

Energetics of charge transport in insulating polymers

2017 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials (ISEIM), 2017
One of the critical challenges of our times is the rapidly (and constantly) rising demand for electric power and miniaturization of electronic devices. This demand can only be achieved through an increase of the electrical stress acting on dielectrics in electronic and electrical components.

Laboratory aging of polymer insulators

2003 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2004
Accelerated aging was performed on a variety of insulators using different polymer bases. A fog chamber and a tracking wheel were used to provide a breadth of information on the aging processes. Each insulator type was subjected to aging in both systems, with matching samples being examined-both with and without prior UV exposure. It was found that the

Polymer‐Based Nano‐Composites for Thermal Insulation

Advanced Engineering Materials, 2019
The growing need for efficient energy use prompts for effective thermally insulating materials. Nano‐composites represent an important class of materials able to fulfill these needs, enabling both sizeable energy savings and specific applications where thermal insulation has to be coupled to mechanical robustness and lightness, like in automotive and ...
