Poisson Bracket Formulation of Nematic Polymer Dynamics

open access: yes, 1999
We formulate the dynamical theory of nematic polymers, starting from a microscopic Poisson bracket approach. We find that the Poisson bracket between the nematic director and momentum depends on the (Maier-Saupe) order parameter of the nematic phase.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Metal phthalocyanine polymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Metal 4, 4', 4", 4"'=tetracarboxylic phthalocyanines (MPTC) are prepared by reaction of trimellitic anhydride, a salt or hydroxide of the desired metal (or the metal in powdered form), urea and a catalyst. A purer form of MPTC is prepared than heretofore.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

In vitro comparative study of fibroblastic behaviour on polymethacrylate (PMMA) and lithium disilicate polymer surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and lithium disilicate are widely used materials in the dental field. PMMA is mainly used for the manufacture of removable prostheses; however, with the incorporation of CAD-CAM technology, new applications have been ...

Providing adhesion for a miniture mobile intra-abdominal device based on biomimetic principles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper investigates the surface adhesion characteristics required for a miniature mobile device to move around the abdominal cavity. Such a device must be capable of adhering to the tissue lining and move freely across the upper surface of the ...
