Variation in the Untranslated Genome and Susceptibility to Infections

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
The clinical outcomes of infections are highly variable among individuals and are determined by complex host-pathogen interactions. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) are powerful tools to unravel common genetic variations that are associated with ...

Consolidate Overview of Ribonucleic Acid Molecular Dynamics: From Molecular Movements to Material Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular dynamics simulations are advancing the study of ribonucleic acid (RNA) and RNA‐conjugated molecules. These developments include improvements in force fields, long‐timescale dynamics, and coarse‐grained models, addressing limitations and refining methods.

Combining Inclusion Polymorphism and Parametric Polymorphism [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1999
We show that the question whether a term is typable is decidable for type systems combining inclusion polymorphism with parametric polymorphism provided the type constructors are at most unary. To prove this result we first reduce the typability problem to the problem of solving a system of type inequations.

Variation in Enamel Formation Genes Influences Enamel Demineralization In Vitro in a Streptococcus mutans Biofilm Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2017
Genetic studies have shown that variations in enamel formation genes are associated with caries susceptibility. The aim of this study was to test in vitro whether variants in these genes are associated with dental enamel demineralization in a ...

Switching From Acceptor to FRET Donor: How the Organic Solar Cell Architecture Can Change the Role of a Chromophore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The non‐fullerene acceptor o‐IDT‐BT‐DCV is used in both binary and ternary blends to investigate the role that it plays in each device architecture. The charge generation pathways are found to differ between the binary and ternary blends with o‐IDT‐BT‐DCV becoming a second donor in the ternary blend.

Human glutathione S-transferase theta (GSTT1): cDNA cloning and the characterization of a genetic polymorphism.

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1994
In humans, glutathione-dependent conjugation of halomethanes is polymorphic, with 60% of the population classed as conjugators and 40% as non-conjugators. We report the characterization of the genetic polymorphism causing the phenotypic difference.

Effect of childhood trauma on adult depression and neuroendocrine function: sex-specific moderation by CRH receptor 1 gene

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2009
Variations of the corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor 1 (CRHR1) gene appear to moderate the development of depression after childhood trauma. Depression more frequently affects women than men.

Apolipoprotein E polymorphism and atherosclerosis.

open access: yesArteriosclerosis, 1988
The apo E locus contributes to determining the variation in plasma cholesterol levels of healthy and diseased populations. It also influences the expression of hyperlipidemia and appears to modulate the susceptibility to atherosclerosis in a complex ...

A Close Look at the Local Structure of Functional Polymers: The Example of Poly(Vinylidene Fluoride)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To accurately develop structure‐property relationships in functional macromolecules, it is increasingly important to consider the local chain arrangement in addition to long‐range order. It is demonstrated in the case of poly(vinylidene fluoride) that solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy can provide detailed insights into the local
