Butterfly‐Inspired Hierarchical Hybrid Composites for Lightweight Structural Thermal Management Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Emulating nature's unparalleled engineering, this work introduces butterfly‐inspired hybrid composites for high‐performance transportation and defense sectors. Leveraging biomimicry, these lightweight composites feature butterfly leg‐inspired hierarchical fibrous assemblies and butterfly wing‐inspired sandwich‐structured architecture, to achieve ...

Association Between 5-HTTLPR Polymorphism and the Risk of Autism: A Meta-Analysis Based on Case-Control Studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2019
Background: Recently, many case-control studies have reported the association between 5-HTTLPR polymorphism and autism risk. However, the results are inconclusive and conflicting. To investigate the genetic association of 5-HTTLPR polymorphism and autism

Identification of polymorphs of pentacene [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2002
Pentacene crystallizes in a layered structure with a herringbone arrangement within the layers. The electronic properties depend strongly on the stacking of the molecules within the layers (Haddon et al., 2002). We have synthesized four different polymorphs of pentacene, identified by their layer periodicity, d(001): 14.1, 14.4, 15.0 and 15.4 A. Single

Predicting 2D Crystal Packing in Thin Films of Small Molecule Organic Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A computational method is proposed for predicting the 2D molecular packing in crystalline thin films of flexible organic molecules. The approach employs a grid search for molecular arrangements, achieving accurate predictions of 2D packing motifs with strongly reduced computational costs.

A New Single Gene Differential Biomarker for Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex and Non-tuberculosis Mycobacteria

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
BackgroundTuberculosis (TB) and non-tuberculous mycobacteriosis are serious threats to health worldwide. A simple non-sequencing method is needed for rapid diagnosis, especially in less experienced hospitals, but there is no specific biomarker commonly ...

A Close Look at the Local Structure of Functional Polymers: The Example of Poly(Vinylidene Fluoride)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To accurately develop structure‐property relationships in functional macromolecules, it is increasingly important to consider the local chain arrangement in addition to long‐range order. It is demonstrated in the case of poly(vinylidene fluoride) that solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy can provide detailed insights into the local

Association of Polymorphisms in miRNA Processing Genes With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Its Vascular Complications in a Southern Chinese Population

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
Objective: To evaluate the potential association between the genetic variants in miRNA processing genes (RAN, XPO5, DICER1, and TARBP2) and susceptibility to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its vascular complications, as well as to further ...

Polymorphism clones of homogeneous structures (Universal homogeneous polymorphisms and automatic homeomorphicity) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Every clone of functions comes naturally equipped with a topology---the topology of pointwise convergence. A clone $\mathfrak{C}$ is said to have automatic homeomorphicity with respect to a class $\mathcal{C}$ of clones, if every clone-isomorphism of $\mathfrak{C}$ to a member of $\mathcal{C}$ is already a homeomorphism (with respect to the topology of
