Ribonucleoprotein (RNP) granules are membraneless organelles (MLOs), which majorly consist of RNA and RNA-binding proteins and are formed via liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS).

Renal tubular atrophy is a hallmark of chronic kidney disease. The study by Zhu et al. reveals the protective role of tubular polynucleotide phosphorylase (PNPT1) against renal atrophy by blocking the leakage of mitochondrial dsRNAs into cytoplasm where ...

Binding to the minor groove of the double-strand, tau protein prevents DNA from damage by peroxidation. [PDF]
Tau, an important microtubule associated protein, has been found to bind to DNA, and to be localized in the nuclei of both neurons and some non-neuronal cells.

Biopolymers are easily denatured by heating, a change in pH or chemical substances when they are immobilized on a substrate. To prevent denaturation of biopolymers, we developed a method to trap a polynucleotide on a substrate by hydrogen bonding using ...

Streptomyces RNases – Function and impact on antibiotic synthesis
Streptomyces are soil dwelling bacteria that are notable for their ability to sporulate and to produce antibiotics and other secondary metabolites. Antibiotic biosynthesis is controlled by a variety of complex regulatory networks, involving activators ...

Characterization of individual polynucleotide molecules using a membrane channel.
We show that an electric field can drive single-stranded RNA and DNA molecules through a 2.6-nm diameter ion channel in a lipid bilayer membrane. Because the channel diameter can accommodate only a single strand of RNA or DNA, each polymer traverses the ...

The Effect of Divalent Metal Ions on the Temperature Stability of Poly(I:C) Duplex
The effect of divalent ions on the thermal stability of the double-stranded polynucleotide polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid (poly(I:C)) in a buffer solution (pH 7) was studied by UV absorption spectroscopy and thermal denaturation by measuring the ...

Carbethoxylation of Polynucleotides [PDF]
Diethyl pyrocarbonate has been shown to react with poly(A), poly(C) and poly(G) but poly(U) does not react. Diethyl pyrocarbonate appears to carbethoxylate amino groups on the bases. Poly(A) can bind one carbethoxy group per base but the binding capacity of poly(G) and poly(C) under non‐denaturing conditions is 0.32 and 0.23, respectively.
