Features of the Genetic Structure of the Earthworms Aporrectodea (Superspecies) Caliginosa (Oligochaeta: Lumbricidae) Complex in Ukraine

open access: yes, 2008
An investigation of the genetic structure of the Aporrectodea caliginosa – A. trapezoids diploidpolyploid complex of earthworms found in the Ukraine is performed by means of biochemical genetic marking with respect to six loci (Aat, Es-1, -2, -3, and -4,

Bringing together evolution on serpentine and polyploidy: spatiotemporal history of the diploid-tetraploid complex of Knautia arvensis (Dipsacaceae).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Polyploidization is one of the leading forces in the evolution of land plants, providing opportunities for instant speciation and rapid gain of evolutionary novelties.

Gene expression regulation and lineage evolution: the North and South tale of the hybrid polyploid Squalius alburnoides complex

open access: yes, 2010
The evolution of hybrid polyploid vertebrates, their viability and their perpetuation over evolutionary time have always been questions of great interest.

The ciliary neurotrophic factor induces Stat3 phosphorylation in distinctive cytotypes of organs involved in body metabolism: An immunohistochemical study

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
p‐STAT3‐positive cells in metabolically relevant peripheral organs and tissues from mice administered with recombinant CNTF (0.3 mg/kg). Abstract Administration of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) reduces food intake and body weight in both humans and experimental animals, where it also ameliorates hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and dyslipidemia ...

New estimates and synthesis of chromosome numbers, ploidy levels and genome size variation in Allium sect. Codonoprasum: advancing our understanding of the unresolved diversification and evolution of this section

open access: yesBotanical Studies
Background The genus Allium is known for its high chromosomal variability, but most chromosome counts are based on a few individuals and genome size (GS) reports are limited in certain taxonomic groups. This is evident in the Allium sect. Codonoprasum, a

NudC moonlights in ribosome biogenesis and homeostasis in polyploid cells of Drosophila melanogasterNudC moonlights in ribosome biogenesis and homeostasis in polyploid cells of Drosophila melanogaster [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Biology
Ribosomes, the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis, are fundamental across all kingdoms of life. Disruption of ribosome biogenesis (RiBi) can cause severe ribosomopathies, underscoring the need for precise regulatory mechanisms.

Refining generic limits in Hyacinthinae (Asparagaceae, Scilloideae): Conflict and concordance between morphology and phylogenomics

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
Using Angiosperms353 and plastid genome skimming approaches, the generic limits of Hyacinthinae were explored using DNA sequences to better understand their evolution. Floral morphology, a traditional generic delimiter, conflicts with the molecular groupings in many cases, but bulb morphology and cytogenetics define similar groups to DNA.

The MRN complex of wheat

open access: yesCzech Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding, 2011
The MRN complex is formed by the interaction of the products of the Mre11, Rad50 and Nbs1 genes. This complex plays a central role on repair of double-strand breaks (DSBs) and acts in a great number of cellular processes.
