Sisters with polysplenia

American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1985
AbstractThe pathogenesis of asplenia and polysplenia in humans is unknown. The conditions have been regarded as duplication of sidedness or abnormalities of embryonic curvature. The resemblance of the abnormalities in an autosomal recessive mutation (iv) in mice to those in humans with asplenia or polysplenia suggest the possibility of a genetic basis ...

ASPLENIA AND POLYSPLENIA SYNDROME

Diagnosis of Polysplenia Syndrome

Radiology, 1971
Three cases of polysplenia were diagnosed by visceral arteriography. Each patient had a common celiacomesenteric artery. The origin of supply to the dislocated splenic lobules was variable. Such lobules were readily demonstrated at various sites along the greater curvature of the stomach.

Asplenia and Polysplenia

Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, 1991
Abdominal sonograms on seven patients with asplenia syndrome and six patients with polysplenia syndrome were retrospectively reviewed. All seven patients with asplenia had a horizontal symmetric configuration of the liver, and three patients had the cardiac apex opposite the stomach.

Short Pancreas in Polysplenia Syndrome

Acta Radiologica, 1991
Two cases with the polysplenia syndrome also had a short pancreas. To the best of our knowledge the radiologic characteristics of this anatomic anomaly have not yet been reported. Both cases were asymptomatic with regard to their anomaly-complex. The radiologic findings of the short “pancreas” are similar to the only pathologic description of this ...

Scintigraphic Diagnosis of Polysplenia in the Adult

Clinical Nuclear Medicine, 1999
The authors describe an adult patient with low index of suspicion for polysplenia. The diagnostic contribution of various investigative modalities is considered, and the key role of scintigraphy is specifically highlighted.CT scan findings revealed multiple abdominal and retroperitoneal masses. Needle biopsy of a flank mass was nonspecific.

Interest of Laparoscopy in Polysplenia Syndrome

European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2003
Polysplenia syndrome (PS) is usually discovered in symptomatic patients in association with congenital heart disease or biliary atresia. Asymptomatic patients can present associated anomalies of the digestive tract such as intestinal malrotation and gastric or splenic malfixation.

[Polysplenia. Description of a case].

Giornale italiano di cardiologia, 1977
A clinical and hemodynamic study of a case of polysplenia, with typical left bilateral symmetry, anomalies of systemic venous drainage and defect of the endocardial cushions. A brief revision of the literature is given and the embriological and clinical concept of the left bilateral symmetry is discussed.

Polysplenia with normally structured hearts

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1990
Abstract Polysplenia is known to exist with a constellation of anomalies that exhibit bilateral left-sidedness. Other well-established features of the “left-sided” syndrome include bilateral morphologically left bronchi, lobation bilaterally characteristic of a left lung and interruption of the inferior caval vein with continuation via the azygos ...

Polysplenia associated with semiannular pancreas

European Radiology, 2001
We report CT images of an asymptomatic, adult case of polysplenia syndrome associated with semiannular pancreas, intestinal malrotation, preduodenal portal vein, and agenesis of the upper abdominal segment of the inferior vena cava with azygous continuation.
