Evaporation Kinematics of Polystyrene Bead Suspensions
Langmuir, 1997A study of the evaporation of polystyrene sphere−H2O suspensions placed on nonwetting surfaces was conducted using a video camera and computer-imaging interface. The height, diameter, contact angle, and mass were measured as functions of time for a range of sessile drop sizes, polystyrene sphere diameters, and initial suspension concentrations.

Plasmachemical Functionalization of Porous Polystyrene Beads
Chemistry of Materials, 2001XPS, ATR-FTIR, 19 F MAS solid-state NMR, and imaging TOF-SIMS have been used to compare the depth and extent of chemical modification achieved during nonisothermal CF 4 plasma fluorination of nonporous, mesoporous, and microporous polystyrene spheres.

Microscopic Infrared Mapping of Chloromethylated Polystyrene Resin Beads
Applied Spectroscopy, 2004In solid-phase combinatorial chemistry, analyses are performed using a wide range of analytical techniques ranging from gel-phase nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to colorimetric tests to elemental analysis. However, these techniques cannot be used to interrogate functional group distribution at the single-bead level.

Filler–matrix debonding in glass bead-filled polystyrene
Journal of Materials Science, 1997The debonding process in a glassy polymer filled with glass beads during constant strain rate tensile loading has been analysed both theoretically and experimentally. A model which combines concepts of damage mechanics and the time dependence of interfacial strength has been proposed and compared with experimental results on glass bead-filled ...

Incorporation of pyrene in polypyrrole/polystyrene magnetic beads
Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2014Pyrene, a fluorescent dye, was incorporated into polystyrene particles coated with polypyrrole. The incorporation was achieved by treating the polypyrrole/polystyrene (PPy/PS) beads in a tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution of the pyrene fluorophore followed by rinsing with methanol.

Shear-Induced Detachment of Polystyrene Beads from SAM-Coated Surfaces.
Langmuir, 2015In this work we experimentally and theoretically analyze the detachment of microscopic polystyrene beads from different self-assembled monolayer (SAM) surfaces in a shear flow in order to develop a mechanistic model for the removal of cells from surfaces.

Polystyrene-bead concrete properties and mix design
International Journal of Cement Composites and Lightweight Concrete, 1982Abstract Polystyrene-bead concrete is used to form the cores of concrete sandwich beams and slabs in current research in the University of Durham. The paper describes the properties of the material and suggests a method of mix design.

Dynamic shear modulus of polystyrene bead foams
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1972AbstractThe shear storage modulus has been determined for 0.05, 0.10, and 0.22 g/cc polystyrene bead foams and for the full density polymer at frequencies from 0.005 to 0.5 Hz at temperatures from −5° to 84°C. These data are superposed to form master curves of log modulus versus log temperature‐reduced frequency, using shift factors calculated by the ...

Macrocycle-functionalized polystyrene beads as specific absorbers
Reactive and Functional Polymers, 2015Abstract Crosslinked polystyrene beads were first functionalized with phenacyl ester linkers, and a series of four macrocycles with different ring sizes were synthesized from these linkers. The macrocycles were built from amide-linked monomers coupled by conventional peptide-synthesis methods.
