Enzymatic Degumming of Ray Liver Oil Using Phospholipase A1: Efficiency, Yield and Effect on Physicochemical Parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Crude oils have components such as metals, pigments, phospholipids and waxes, which alter its physicochemical and organoleptic characteristics. These components are commonly removed during the refining process by physicochemical methods. In

Video and Text‐Based Supplemental Health Information and Consumer Willingness to Pay for Nutrient‐Enhanced Eggs

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nutritional information is very important in the food choices of consumers. However, when they are too scientific or technical, they have the potential to confuse consumers, resulting in information asymmetry and dissuading them from making beneficial choices.

Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

Studies relating to Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid (PUFA) Supplementation and Fertility in Cattle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
End of project reportReproductive inefficiency has a significant impact on the economic performance of both dairy and beef herds, particularly in seasonal calving systems. Nutrition plays a fundamental role in reproduction. Furthermore, there is emerging

An ultra‐processed food‐based cafeteria diet induces obesity, metabolic dysfunction, and tissue‐specific gene dysregulation in C57BL/6 mice

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This schematic figure illustrates the experimental design and key findings of the study. Forty male C57BL/6 mice were assigned to either a standard diet control group or a cafeteria diet (CAFD) group for 16 weeks. CAFD induces obesity, insulin resistance (HOMA‐IR), hepatic steatosis, and dysregulation of a number of genes in visceral and subcutaneous ...

The Effect of n-6 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid on Blood Levels of Malondialdehyde-Deoxyguanosine Adducts In Human Subjects [PDF]

open access: yes
The role of n-6 polyunsaturated fats upon the formation of the mutagenic DNA adduct malondialdehydedeoxyguanosine (M1dG) in blood was investigated in male volunteers (n = 13) who consumed diets high in saturated and polyunsaturated fats, and ...

Multi‐omics data mining combined with experimental validation reveals ferroptosis‐ and autophagy‐associated hub genes as diagnostic candidates and immune modulators in atherosclerosis

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Using the GSE225650 dataset, we performed differential expression gene (DEG) screening, Weighted Gene Coexpression Network Analysis (WGCNA), and immune infiltration profiling on atherosclerosis (AS) samples, yielding 104 shared candidate genes. Subsequently, these 104 candidate genes were intersected with ferroptosis‑ and autophagy‑related gene sets ...

Trans unsaturated fatty acids : a study of methodology and levels in New Zealand food fats including milkfat : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Science in Biochemistry at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Trans fatty acids (TFAs) occur naturally in small amounts in foods such as milk, butter and tallow as a result of biohydrogenation by ruminant gut microflora. They are formed in much larger quantities during chemical hydrogenation of fats and oils.

Dietary fatty acids and lipoproteins on progression of age-related macular degeneration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a medical condition of central loss vision and blindness. Numerous studies have revealed that changes on certain dietary fatty acids (FAs) could have useful for AMD management.

Predominance of Ferroptotic Cell Death Mechanisms in Substantia Nigra Neurodegeneration in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective The extent of neuronal loss in Parkinson's disease (PD) and the pathogenic processes underlying neuronal dysfunction and loss remain poorly understood. Here, we analyzed the expression of key molecules representing different cell death signaling pathways and their association with Lewy pathology, dopaminergic (DA) neuron loss and stage of PD ...
