Synthesis of Benzopyran Atropisomers via Electrophilic Halogenation

We report a halogenation‐based method for the synthesis of axially chiral benzopyrans, tolerating diverse substituents and halogens (Br, Cl, and I). A double bromination gives bisbenzopyrans with two stereogenic axes. Preliminary enantioselective conditions yield benzopyran atropisomer with up to 56% ee.

Abstract Objective Individuals with Down syndrome (DS) face an ultra‐high risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Within this continuum, Progressive Myoclonus Epilepsy (PME) has emerged as a marker of advanced neurodegeneration. Building on our 2014 characterization of this syndrome, we aimed to define its long‐term natural history and pathological substrate.

The samples were fungicidal against Candida, with MICs ranging from 62.5 to 250 μg/mL, and fungistatic against Penicillium adametzii, Aspergillus flavus and A. niger, with MICs of 1000 μg/mL. The volatile oils of Piper aduncum and Piper marginatum reduced the viability of MDA‐MB231 cells.
