Quality of Life (QoL) of cancer patients and its association with nutritional and performance status: A pilot study

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
Background: Quality of Life (QoL), for long, has been a multifactorial concerning issue in oncology. The aim of this study was to determine QoL of cancer patients and its association with nutrition, and performance status.

Kinetics of COVID-19 mRNA primary and booster vaccine-associated neutralizing activity against SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern in long-term care facility residents: a prospective longitudinal study in Japan

open access: yesImmunity & Ageing, 2023
Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remains a threat to vulnerable populations such as long-term care facility (LTCF) residents, who are often older, severely frail, and have multiple comorbidities. Although associations have been investigated

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Carboplatin and 5-fluorouracil in poor performance status patients with advanced urothelial cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Oncology, 1993
In view of the difficulties in administering aggressive treatment to elderly patients, frequently with concomitant medical problems, a treatment program with the combination of carboplatin and 5-FU for advanced urothelial tumors was designed. The aim was to maintain an efficacious therapeutic schedule while minimizing toxicity.Twenty-three patients ...

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

To Treat or Not to Treat Metastatic Cancer Patients with Poor Performance Status: a Prospective Experience

open access: yesPathology & Oncology Research, 2016
Administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy for patients with metastatic cancer and poor performance status is a daily clinical challenge. Guidelines only help to select a therapeutic regimen but do not offer a clear response whether or not the patients should be treated.
