Application of a transient hygrothermal population model for house dust mites in beds: assessment of control strategies in UK buildings

open access: yes, 2011
This article discusses the capabilities and the application of an innovative combined hygrothermal and population model to assess the impact of building design and occupant behaviour on house dust mite populations in a mattress. The combined model is the

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Numerical Simulation of Droplet Breakup and Coalescence in Liquid-liquid Separation Hydrocyclone

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2017
In order to study the breakup and coalescence of droplets in hydrocyclone and their effects on separation performance, the Euler-Euler multiphase flow model and the RSM turbulence model were used to simulate the separation of oil and water in the cyclone.

Improving Estimates of Natural Resources Using Model-Based Estimators: Impacts of Sample Design, Estimation Technique, and Strengths of Association

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Natural resource managers need accurate depictions of existing resources to make informed decisions. The classical approach to describing resources for a given area in a quantitative manner uses probabilistic sampling and design-based inference to ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Effect of Oil Droplet Coalescence and Breakup Behavior on Separation Performance of Hydrocyclone

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2019
To study the effects of coalescence and breakup behavior of discrete phase oil droplet on the internal flow field characteristics and separation performance of oil-water separation hydrocyclone, taking the axial guide cone hydrocyclone as study object ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Catalyst Deactivation: Control Relevance of Model Assumptions [PDF]

open access: yesModeling, Identification and Control, 2000
Two principles for describing catalyst deactivation are discussed, one based on the deactivation mechanism, the other based on the activity and catalyst age distribution.

Modelling of polymer particle formation using population balance model

open access: yes, 2010
The paper presents a study of formation of the primary particle size distribution in suspension “powder” polymerization of vinyl chloride. The process is modelled by means of a population balance model, and the primary particle size distribution inside ...
