Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Study on the regional characteristics during foam flooding by population balance model

open access: yesEnergy Exploration & Exploitation, 2021
Foam flooding is an effective method for enhancing oil recovery in high water-cut reservoirs and unconventional reservoirs. It is a dynamic process that includes foam generation and coalescence when foam flows through porous media.

Population balance modeling of biopolymer production in cellular systems [PDF]

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2014
Abstract In this contribution we present a population balance modeling approach for the production of the biopolymer poly(β-hydroxybutyrate) in Ralstonia eutropha. The population balance model is based on a dynamic single cell model, which accounts for cell internal regulation by means of the cybernetic modeling approach.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Projecting the future of Ayapel Cienaga: a hydroecologic analysis under climate change scenarios

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2020
We developed a three-component model to evaluate the present and future hydrological behavior of Ayapel Cienaga under different scenarios of climate variability and human intervention associated with fishing and mining activities and the maintenance of ...

MATHEMATICAL MODELING OF THE DESTABILIZATION OF ACID IN CRUDE OIL EMULSIONS USING POPULATION BALANCE EQUATION [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this current work, a phenomenological mathematical model that utilizes the population balance equation was developed to understand the destabilization process of acid in crude oil emulsions in laboratory conditions.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Hydrodynamics of Bubble Columns: Turbulence and Population Balance Model

open access: yesChemEngineering, 2018
This paper presents an in-depth numerical analysis on the hydrodynamics of a bubble column. As in previous works on the subject, the focus here is on three important parameters characterizing the flow: interfacial forces, turbulence and inlet superficial

Direct discretizations of bi-variate population balance systems with finite difference schemes of different order [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The accurate and efficient simulation of bi-variate population balance systems is nowadays a great challenge since the domain spanned by the external and internal coordinates is five-dimensional.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...
