Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Development of a multidimensional deprivation index for emerging municipalities and cities in Uganda

open access: yesDiscover Global Society
This study advances the measurement of urban living standards deprivation by developing a context-specific multidimensional deprivation index and estimating the extent of deprivation in Uganda’s newly gazetted municipalities and cities.

Origine et évolution du cannibalisme dans les populations animales : pourquoi manger son semblable ? [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnologie, Agronomie, Société et Environnement, 2009
Origin and evolution of cannibalism in the animal populations: why to eat conspecific? The term «Cannibalism» is a linguistic distortion resulting from Arawak terminology (Amerindians in the Antilles) caribal that means courageous.

Flutuação populacional e efeito da distância e profundidade sobre nematoides em bananeira no norte de Minas Gerais Population dynamics and the effect of distance and depth on nematodes in banana in the north of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil

Evolutionary Poisson Games for Controlling Large Population Behaviors

open access: yes, 2015
Emerging applications in engineering such as crowd-sourcing and (mis)information propagation involve a large population of heterogeneous users or agents in a complex network who strategically make dynamic decisions.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

The rise and fall of cliff-breeding seabirds in Sør-Varanger, NE Norway, 1970-2002

open access: yesFauna Norvegica
Surveys of seabirds breeding along the coast of Sør-Varanger, NE Norway were carried out in 1989, 1996, 1999 and 2002 as a continuation of a monitoring study started in 1970.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.
