Range extension of the threatened Red Crossbill (Loxia curvirostra percna) in Canada: new insights from Anticosti Island, Québec

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2018
Red Crossbill (Loxia curvirostra percna; e.g., Type 8) is considered a distinctive taxonomic group likely restricted to the island of Newfoundland. Although it has been speculated that the percna subspecies may be extinct, recent works continue to show ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Economical Evaluation of Reduced Herbicide Doses Application Rates to Control Phalaris brachystachys (Short-Spiked Canary Grass) in a Biennial Wheat–Sunflower Rotation in Mediterranean Dryland: A Modelling Approach

open access: yesPlants
Phalaris brachystachys (short-spiked canary grass) is considered to be among the most troublesome cereal weeds in Mediterranean areas. A bioeconomic model, based on population dynamics, competition and economic sub-models, was developed to simulate the ...

Recoveries of Grey Seals Halichoerus grypus (Fabricius) tagged along the Norwegian coast

open access: yesFauna Norvegica, 1987
A total of 1040 Grey Seals have been tagged along the Norwegian coast in the period from 1975 to 1986. Most of them (985) have been tagged at Froan on the coast of Sør-Trøndelag. Ninetythree of the tagged seals have been recovered. The majority of these

Toward a General Model for Populations with Changing Rates [PDF]

open access: yes
Formal demography has yet to move beyond assuming that demographic rates are constant over time, an assumption that is both unrealistic and constraining.
