Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

Dual-Task Gait Analysis: Combined Cognitive–Motor Demands Most Severely Impact Walking Patterns and Joint Kinematics

open access: yesLife
Cognitive tasks significantly influence automated acts, such as walking. This study included 41 healthy individuals, who were over 65 years of age. We examined dual-task effects on the spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters of gait in older adults ...

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Effect of temperature on life table parameters of the predatory soil mite Blattisocius mali (Acari: Blattisociidae) fed on Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Acari: Acaridae)

open access: yesScientific Reports
Temperature impacts the development, survival, and fecundity of edaphic predatory mites. This study examined the biological and life table parameters of the edaphic predatory mite Blattisocius mali (Oudemans) (Acari: Blattisociidae) feeding on Tyrophagus

Prediction Equation for Spirometric Parameters in Cairo Governorate Adult Population

open access: yesEvidence-Based Nursing Research
Context: Spirometry is the most common one used in assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with different lung diseases. Prediction equations developed in one set of the population may not apply to a different set of populations.

KDAC6 alters cell morphology and motility through positive and negative modulation of F‐actin distribution

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KDAC6 has been associated with cell motility and actin structures, but specific domain contributions are not established. The two catalytic domains have differential effects on motility and F‐actin regulation, affecting cortical F‐actin density, motility, stress fibers, and cell spreading.
