Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Fine-scale population spatialization with accumulable features from street view imagery and points of interest

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Earth Observations and Geoinformation
Population spatialization serves as a pivotal technique for delineating the geographical distribution patterns of human populations, which is essential for urban planning and the optimal allocation of public resources.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

New Zealand regions, 1986-2001: Population dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
New Zealand regions have markedly different population dynamics. Population change in a region is driven by three different factors: fertility, mortality and migration.
