On the momentum of population growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
For more about the East-West Center, see http://www.eastwestcenter.org/This paper develops a simple formula for making the calculation of momentum, and so shows the five parameters of the present condition that determine the ultimate population under the

Spatial population genetics with fluid flow

open access: yesReports on Progress in Physics, 2022
Abstract The growth and evolution of microbial populations is often subjected to advection by fluid flows in spatially extended environments, with immediate consequences for questions of spatial population genetics in marine ecology, planktonic diversity and origin of life scenarios.

Discerning protein pools by selective staining with self‐labeling tags

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cell surface proteins have an intra‐ and extracellular pool. Combining genetic fusion to self‐labeling tags that can be addressed with small molecule fluorophores allows separating these pools. We highlight recent developments and techniques for state‐of‐the‐art interrogation of cell surface proteins in the complex tissue setting.

High-resolution population mapping based on SDGSAT-1 glimmer imagery and deep learning: a case study of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

open access: yesInternational Journal of Digital Earth
Accurate population mapping is crucial for disaster management, urban planning, etc. However, current methods using nighttime light (NTL) and gridded population datasets are limited by low spatial resolution and insufficient training data for complex ...

Spatiotemporal evolution and influencing factors of urban growth and shrinkage in Central and Southern Liaoning: Based on the perspective of physical urban area [PDF]

open access: yesZiyuan Kexue
[Objective] Due to the limited development of spatialization technology for socioeconomic data, previous research on the factors that affect urban shrinkage at the physical area scale of cities has mostly remained at the stage of qualitative analysis or ...

The hidden city of immigrants in Helsinki's urban leftovers – the homogenization of the city and the lost diversity

open access: yesFennia: International Journal of Geography, 2022
Cities acknowledge the diversity of their population and consider the multicultural component a richness of their socio-cultural assets. Immigrants contribute to the reshaping of urban space in many European cities through their amenities.

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses
