Revisiting Porcine Circovirus Disease Diagnostic Criteria in the Current Porcine Circovirus 2 Epidemiological Context [PDF]
Current knowledge on porcine circovirus diseases (PCVD) caused by Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV-2) includes the subclinical infection (PCV-2-SI), systemic (PCV-2-SD) and reproductive (PCV-2-RD) diseases, and porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS). Criteria to establish the diagnosis of these conditions have not changed over the years; thus, the

Identification of porcine circovirus-3 in Mozambique
Veterinary Research Communications, 2021Porcine circovirus 3 (PCV-3) has been associated with an assortment of clinical conditions in pigs and has been reported in many countries worldwide. In Africa there is no data on the presence of PCV-3. In this study, DNA samples collected from 91 pigs between 2011 and 2019 in nine of the ten provinces of Mozambique in the context of African swine ...

AbstractPorcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is a member of the familyCircoviridae, a recently established virus family composed of small, non-enveloped viruses, with a circular, single-stranded DNA genome. PCV2, which is found all over the world in the domestic pig and probably the wild boar, has been recently associated with a number of disease syndromes,

Recent progress on porcine circovirus type 3
Porcine circovirus 3 (PCV3) is a newly identified virus that belongs to the genus Circovirus in the family Circoviridae. Since the first identification of PCV3 in domestic swine in 2016 in the USA, exciting progress on PCV3 has emphasized the importance of the virus. The aim of this review is to present recent advances in the molecular characteristics,

Studies on epidemiology and pathogenicity of porcine circovirus
Archives of Virology, 1986Antibodies to porcine circovirus (PCV) which is the smallest animal virus known so far were found in 77-95 per cent of sera from slaughter pigs gathered in Berlin and two districts of Northern Germany. About 60 per cent of these positive sera had relatively high titres similar to those in experimentally infected pigs 3-6 weeks after infection.

Porcine circovirus type 3 in the UK
Veterinary Record, 2017Circoviruses are circular, single-stranded DNA viruses and the smallest known autonomously replicating viruses.1 Two species of circovirus are known to infect pigs: porcine circovirus type 1 (PCV1) – which has not been associated with clinical disease – and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), which was first isolated and characterised in the late 1990s ...

Shedding of Porcine Circovirus into Colostrum of Sows
Journal of Veterinary Medicine, Series B, 2006SummaryThe purpose of the present study was to investigate porcine circovirus (PCV) shedding into the milk of sows. Colostrum was collected from 33 sows. PCV1 was isolated from four of 33 milk whey samples. PCV1 DNA was detected by polymerase chain reaction in three of these samples and in three of 10 milk cell samples.
