Immunologic Features of Porcine Circovirus Type 2 Infection

Viral Immunology, 2002
Clinical expression of porcine circovirus 2 (PCV-2) infection in swine may result in two distinct high mortality disease syndromes. In North America, postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), while still sporadic in incidence, predominates. In Europe and elsewhere, both PMWS and a second syndrome, porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome ...

Nontransmission of porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) by embryo transfer

Theriogenology, 2013
Two experiments were conducted to determine the association of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) with embryos and the risk of viral transmission by embryo transfer. In the first experiment, 240 embryos from uninfected donors were exposed to PCV2a 10(4)TCID50/mL in vitro before transfer to seronegative recipients; in the second experiment, 384 embryos ...

Recombination of two porcine circovirus type 2 strains

Archives of Virology, 2009
Pigs can be concurrently infected with different PCV2 strains. In this study, a cell-culture-adapted PCV2 strain, originating from a PMWS-affected pig, was purified by limiting dilution. Three different strains were obtained, and one of them was a perfect mosaic of the other two, with recombination breakpoints in ORF1 and ORF2.

Fine mapping of antigenic epitopes on capsid proteins of porcine circovirus, and antigenic phenotype of porcine circovirus Type 2

Molecular Immunology, 2009
Type 2 porcine circovirus (PCV2) is associated with post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome in pigs. In this study, three monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against the capsid protein (Cap) of PCV2, eight mAbs to Cap of type 1 porcine circovirus (PCV1) and five mAbs specific for Cap of both PCV1 and PCV2, were generated and used to finely map the ...

Proteomic analysis of porcine alveolar macrophages infected with porcine circovirus type 2

Journal of Proteomics, 2012
Post-weaning multi-systemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), which is primarily caused by porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), is an emerging swine immunosuppressive disease. To characterize the interaction between target immune cells and PCV2, the differential proteomes of porcine alveolar macrophages, with and without PCV2 infection, were analyzed at different ...

A review of porcine circovirus 2-associated syndromes and diseases

The Veterinary Journal, 2005
Clinical expression of porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) infection in swine may result in several distinct syndromes and diseases including post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS), reproductive failure, porcine respiratory disease complex, granulomatous enteritis, necrotizing lymphadenitis, and ...

Effect of porcine circovirus type 2 on porcine cell populations

2018
Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is an important pathogen of swine and is associated with postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome which is characterized by follicular and interfollicular lymphoid depletion and a concurrent macrophage infiltration of lymphoid tissues.
