Viable porcine arteriviruses with deletions proximal to the 3 ' end of the genome

open access: yes, 2001
In order to obtain attenuated live vaccine candidates of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), a series of deletions was introduced at the 3′ end of the viral genome using an infectious cDNA clone of the Lelystad virus isolate. RNA

Activation and modulation of antiviral and apoptotic genes in pigs infected with classical swine fever viruses of high, moderate or low virulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The immune response to CSFV and the strategies of this virus to evade and suppress the pigs’ immune system are still poorly understood. Therefore, we investigated the transcriptional response in the tonsils, median retropharyngeal lymph node (MRLN), and ...

Discovery and Engineering of a Rat Endogenous Retrovirus Reverse Transcriptase for Efficient Prime Editing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We screened 558 reverse transcriptases and engineered an optimized rat endogenous retrovirus‐derived variant, enRERV‐RT, via structure‐guided engineering and deep mutational scanning. This enhanced prime editor, based on the engineered RT, outperforms conventional M‐MLV‐RT systems across plant and animal cells, particularly at hard‐to‐edit loci ...

Epidemiological monitoring and genetic variation analysis of pathogens associated with porcine viral diarrhea in southern China from 2021 to 2023

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Large-scale outbreaks of virus-associated severe diarrhea have occurred in pig populations since 2010. To investigate the prevalence and genetic evolution of the diarrhea-associated viruses responsible for the outbreaks, we tested 1,791 diarrhea samples ...

Australian porcine circoviruses

open access: yes, 2006
Two types of porcine circovirus (PCV) exist, referred to as PCV1 and PCV2. PCV2 has been associated with disease syndromes in pigs, including that designated postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), which has been identified in all regions of ...

Detection and analysis of porcine circovirus type 2 in the Irish pig population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Postweaning Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome (PMWS) is a recently emerged multifactorial clinical disease of swine that affects nursery and growing pigs and PCV2 is believed to be the main aetiological agent of the disease. PMWS has emerged in Ireland as a

ZNF33B Promotes Japanese Encephalitis Virus Infection by Regulating the Stability of M6A‐Modified Trim25 to Control the Autophagy Process

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Upon JEV infection, ZNF33B recruits METTL14 to stabilize the METTL3‐METTL14 m6A methyltransferase complex, leading to increased m6A modification of host transcripts, including Trim25 mRNA. ZNF33B selectively binds m6A‐modified sites on Trim25 mRNA and accelerates its decay, resulting in reduced TRIM25 protein abundance.

Cell entry and exit of porcine endogenous retrovirus A: receptors and release inhibitor

open access: yes, 2010
Following the discovery that porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV) can infect human cells, the potential risk of a zoonotic infection by PERV has been a major obstacle in the xenotransplantation field.

Porcine kidney xenotransplantation: From primate models to clinical reality

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
In the face of a critical shortage of human donor kidneys for end‐stage renal disease patients, porcine kidney xenotransplantation has emerged as a viable solution. This field has navigated major hurdles, including immune rejection, physiological incompatibilities, potential biomechanical differences and the risk of cross‐species infection. To overcome

Efficacy of oleandrin and PBI-05204 against viruses of importance to commercial pig health management

open access: yesFrontiers in Animal Science
BackgroundInfection by porcine respiratory and reproductive syncytial virus (PRRSV), swine influenza virus (SIV) and porcine epidemic diarrhea (PEDV) adversely affect worldwide pig production.
