Bacterial porins: structure and function
Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 1993Within the class of integral membrane proteins, the bacterial porins display a remarkable resistance to denaturants and proteases. This stability is probably crucial for the formation of highly ordered, three-dimensional crystals. Structural analysis of these crystals has been possible in atomic detail.

Solute uptake through general porins
Frontiers in Bioscience, 2003General diffusion porins are among the few membrane proteins that have been thoroughly investigated by many techniques, including X-ray crystallography, AFM microscopy, computer modeling, electrophysiology and biochemistry. This had led to a good understanding of the process of solute transport per se.

Science, 2020
Microbiology Mycobacterium tuberculosis has a distinctive physiology that allows it to persist in the human body, including a wax-like cell coat that is largely impermeable and can resist attack by host immune response effectors. Wang et al. identified a simple molecule that effectively crosses this cell coat and kills M. tuberculosis cells.

Mitochondrial Porins, Eukaryotic
2006The mitochondrial outer membrane contains a channel that is responsible for the passage of hydrophilic metabolites across the membrane. The channel-forming protein known for many organisms, called mitochondrial porin or VDAC (voltage-dependent anion-selective channel), has a length of about 280 amino acids.
