THE APPLICATION OF POROUS METAL BEARINGS
Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 1972POROUS metal bearings are produced by partial compaction of metal powders in precision tools of the desired shape followed by the sintering of the powder compact in a reducing atmosphere at a temperature of about 80% of the absolute melting point of the metal.

Porous metal bearings — A critical review
Wear, 1980Abstract The progress to date on various types and aspects of porous metal bearings is critically reviewed. Important potential research areas for further work are discussed.

Hydrodynamic lubrication of long porous bearings
Wear, 1971Abstract Analytical solution is attempted for a long porous bearing, press-fitted into the housing and working with a full film of lubricant. The pressure distribution is determined by a simultaneous solution of Reynolds equation for the film and the Laplace equation for the bearing material while maintaining the continuity of pressure at the film ...

Lubrication of axially undefined porous bearings
Wear, 1970Abstract A solution of the basic equation of the flow-dynamic lubrication concerning porous bearings under steady radial load is given according to the Morgan and Cameron assumptions, which have been modified because the axial dimension of the bearing is considered as undefined.

The optimum profile for a porous slider bearing
Wear, 1978Abstract The load capacity of a porous slider bearing was investigated. The optimum profile was found to be a step form with the riser location and step height ratio depending on the porosity. Porosity decreases the load capacity of a slider bearing.

Hydrodynamic lubrication of short porous bearings
Wear, 1972Abstract A theoretical analysis is presented for the hydrodynamic lubrication of short porous metal bearings that are press-fitted into a solid housing. It is customary with such bearings to neglect the circumferential flow of the lubricant compared to the axial flow and consequently the modified Reynolds equation has a simpler form.

Lubrication of a Porous Bearing—Stokes’ Solution
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1966Coupling of flows induced by the rotation of an infinite cylinder in an eccentric cylindrical hole in a fluid-saturated porous space is investigated in the context of a coupled boundary-value problem in which the Stokes flow outside porous regions and the Darcy flow inside porous regions are connected by continuity requirements on the pressure and ...

Externally Pressurized Porous Thrust Bearings
A S L E Transactions, 1976The use of porous material in the bearing surface of externally pressurized thrust bearings leads to a compact design by eliminating the need for an external restrictor and has other potential advantages. An experimental and theoretical investigation of the performance of such bearings, using liquid lubricants is described: the investigation is limited

Investigation of the process of calibrating porous bearings
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 19631. The calibration conditions — the calibration allowance and the taper angle of the penetrating parts of the calibrating elements, as well as the structure, porosity, and dimensions of the bearings — exert a definite influence on the degree of plastic deformation to which the surface layers are subjected, the magnitude of elastic lag, and the ...

Lubrication of finite porous journal bearings
Wear, 1973Abstract An analytical solution is attempted for a finite porous bearing, press-fitted into the housing and working with a full film of lubricant. The pressure distribution is determined by a simultaneous solution of Reynolds equation for the film and the Laplace equation for the bearing material while maintaining the continuity of pressure at the ...
