Portal hypertension is associated with modulation of regulatory T cells

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inflammation, 2016
Background: Portal hypertension is a complication of liver cirrhosis. The portal vein drains the spleen and the intestines, which are both rich in inflammatory mediators.

Techniques for Management of Portal Vein Thrombosis during Liver Transplantation

open access: yesCase Reports in Transplantation, 2020
Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) poses a unique challenge in liver transplant. The management of PVT differs according to the extent of thrombosis. Anastomosis of a donor portal vein to a varix is a viable option when an adequate size varix is identified on ...

Neutrophil‐Mimicking Nanomedicine Eliminates Tumor Intracellular Bacteria and Enhances Chemotherapy on Liver Metastasis of Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn) enrichment has been identified in colorectal cancer and its liver metastases. This study develops neutrophil‐mimicking nanoparticles with multiple targeting capabilities encapsulating metronidazole and oxaliplatin for antibacterial and anticancer purposes. This approach reverses the epithelial mesenchymal transition process

Targeted decrease of portal hepatic pressure gradient improves ascites control after TIPS

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The river diagram demonstrates that after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion (TIPS) the majority of patients without ascites and 50% of the patients with ascites detectable at ultrasound, show the best response in the long term follow‐up.

Portal Revascularization in the Setting of Cavernous Transformation Through a Paracholedocal Vein: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Diffuse thrombosis of the entire portal system (PVT) and cavernomatous transformation of the portal vein (CTPV) represents a demanding challenge in liver transplantation.

PORTAL: Portal Widget for Remote Target Acquisition and Control in Immersive Virtual Environments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
This paper introduces PORTAL (POrtal widget for Remote Target Acquisition and controL) that allows the user to interact with out-of-reach objects in a virtual environment. We describe the PORTAL interaction technique for placing a portal widget and interacting with target objects through the portal. We conduct two formal user studies to evaluate PORTAL

O‐GalNAc Glycosylation Activates MBL‐Mediated Complement and Coagulation Cascades to Drive Organotropic Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Upregulated glycosyltransferase GALNT9 in neuroendocrine (NE) carcinomas increases O‐GalNAc glycosylation on cell membrane proteins, particularly Annexin‐A2 (ANXA2). Elevated O‐GalNAc glycan induces the binding of NE cancer cells to mannose binding lectin 2 (MBL2), activating the MBL‐MBL associated serine protease (MBL‐MASP) complement pathway in the ...

Portal venous pulsatility fraction, a novel transesophageal echocardiographic marker for right ventricular dysfunction in cardiac surgical patients

open access: yesAnnals of Cardiac Anaesthesia, 2020
Background: Right ventricular (RV) has a vital role in maintaining optimal tissue perfusion. Assessment of portal venous flow characteristics can be alternative and emerging technique to assess RV function.
