Crustacean and Mollusc Shell Proteins: Origin, Structure, and Functionality. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Crustacean and molluscan processing as seafood generates a significant amount of shell waste annually, owing to the dense, mineralārich composition of the exoskeleton. Although valorization efforts have mostly focused on chitin and chitosan, the protein fraction remains underutilized despite its prominent nutritional, functional, and sensory ...

Bacteriology of Unshelled Frozen Blue Swimming Crab (Portunus pelagicus)
In this study, 45 (10 whole specimens and 35 frozen claws) frozen samples of Portunus pelagicus imported into Sicily (Italy) from the west coast of Africa were examined to assess their bacteriological characteristics and suitability for consumption. Bacteriological examination was performed on two subsamples for each whole crab.

This study determined the mitochondrial genome structure of the blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus), and elucidated its phylogenetic relationships among the species within the order Decapoda. The complete mitochondrial genome was 16,155 bp long, and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 1 DNA control ...

Chitosan Antibacterial Of Portunus Pelagicus Against Biofilm Porphyromonas Gingivalis
Background: Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria are found in dental plaques and have the ability to form biofilms. Biofilms are collections of bacterial cells, which are tightly attached to a surface covered by an extracellular polymer matrix released by ...

Crab Diets Differ Between Adjacent Estuaries and Habitats Within a Sheltered Marine Embayment
Portunid crabs contribute to significant commercial and recreational fisheries globally and are commonly fished in estuaries and/or marine embayments, which are amongst the most degraded of all aquatic ecosystems.
