The Effect of Scaffold Hydroxyapatite derived from Portunus pelagicus Shell on the Expression of Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2) and Bone Morphogenetic Proteins-2 (BMP -2) in the Extraction Sockets of Cavia cobaya.

open access: yesJournal of Oral Research, 2022
Objetive: To determine the expression of Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF)-2 and Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMP)-2 after application of scaffold hydroxyapatite from Rajungan crab shell (Portunus pelagicus) in the tooth extraction socket of Cavia cobaya ...

Evaluation of BSP and DMP1 in hydroxyapatite crab shells used for dental socket preservation

open access: yesDental Journal, 2023
Background: Bone resorption due to tooth extraction leads to unpredictable bone volume for future prosthetics. Crab shells were promoted as a solution to prevent bone resorption, along with an effort to reduce biological waste.

Evaluation of osteogenic properties after application of hydroxyapatite-based shells of Portunus pelagicus

open access: yesDental Journal, 2021
Background: After tooth extraction, the socket leaves a defect on the alveolar bone. The administration of shell crab-derived hydroxyapatite maintains bone dimensions that are important for achieving successful prosthodontic treatment.

Molecular Identification and Phylogenetic Trees Reconstruction of Blue Swimming Crabs (Decapoda: Portunidae) from Pangpang Bay, Banyuwangi

open access: yesIlmu Kelautan, 2022
Crabs are a group of Decapoda (Portunidae) that act as keystone species from Pangpang Bay as the marine benthic organism. Besides having an ecological function, crab also provides essential components for human health.

Census of potential predators and competitors of sandfish, Holothuria scabra, juveniles during floating hapa ocean nursery culture

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 3, Issue 3, Page 316-328, June 2023., 2023
This study reports for the first‐time potential predators and competitors that recruited and migrated to floating hapa nets during ocean nursery culture of sandfish juveniles reared in the Philippines. Results indicate that the presence of potential predators and competitors within the floating hapas negatively affected growth performance and survival ...

A review of influencing factors on a recirculating aquaculture system: Environmental conditions, feeding strategies, and disinfection methods

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 54, Issue 3, Page 566-602, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), as a modern highly intensive aquaculture mode, demonstrates the advantages of environmental friendliness, high efficiency and sustainable development, and has been widely used worldwide; they are also expected to be more widely applied in industrial aquaculture in the future as our natural resources are ...

Processing of waste of canning and swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) in PT. Sumber Mina Bahari Rembang, Central Java

open access: yesJournal of Marine and Coastal Science, 2020
Blue crab canning is a high protein, low fat, and multi functional product. Waste that produced from blue crab canning needs handling and processing that couldn't make a negative impact to the enviroment.

Bacteriology of Unshelled Frozen Blue Swimming Crab (Portunus pelagicus)

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 2004
In this study, 45 (10 whole specimens and 35 frozen claws) frozen samples of Portunus pelagicus imported into Sicily (Italy) from the west coast of Africa were examined to assess their bacteriological characteristics and suitability for consumption. Bacteriological examination was performed on two subsamples for each whole crab.

eDNA metabarcoding of decapod crustaceans across Indonesian seas has implications for biodiversity conservation and fisheries sustainability

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
Environmental DNA (eDNA) methods are increasingly viewed as alternate or complementary approaches to conventional capture-based surveys for marine conservation and fisheries management purposes, especially at large spatial scales in mega-biodiversity ...

Physiology of Ovarian Development in Crustaceans: Interactions Among Hormones, Nutrients, and Environmental Factors From Integrated Perspectives. [PDF]

open access: yesAquac Nutr
Reproductive maturation remains a central bottleneck in crustacean aquaculture, as ovarian development dictates broodstock quality, fecundity, and larval viability. This review synthesizes current knowledge on the physiological regulation of ovarian maturation in decapod crustaceans, emphasizing the interplay of hormones, nutrients, and environmental ...
