User Preferences toward Positive and Negative Feedback Information in Online Learning: Goal Achievement and Information Value Perspectives

open access: yes, 2016
We adopted 2 theoretical perspectives (goal achievement and information value) to determine the conditions under which people prefer to receive positive or negative feedback information.

Kinorhesis: A physiological principle of transformation that is complementary with homeostatic stability

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Since being articulated by Claude Bernard, and ultimately named by Walter Cannon, the theory of Homeostasis has been a conceptual and practical bedrock of physiology and medicine.

Developmental disorders caused by haploinsufficiency of transcriptional regulators: a perspective based on cell fate determination

open access: yesBiology Open, 2022
Many human birth defects and neurodevelopmental disorders are caused by loss-of-function mutations in a single copy of transcription factor (TF) and chromatin regulator genes.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Is no praise good praise? Effects of positive feedback on children’s and university students’ responses to subsequent failures. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: According to Dweck and colleagues (e.g., Kamins & Dweck, 1999; Mueller & Dweck, 1986), praise can be delivered using person (“you are clever”) or process terms (“you worked hard”).

Why all MODY variants in transcription factor genes are dominantly inherited

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics
Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is an autosomal dominant form of monogenic diabetes, frequently caused by heterozygous loss-of-function variants in transcription factor (TF) genes. Why are MODY variants in TF genes dominantly inherited?

PAM-flexible dual base editor-mediated random mutagenesis and self-activation strategies to improve CRISPRa potency

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Methods & Clinical Development, 2022
VP64 is the smallest transactivation domain that can be packaged together with the sgRNA into a single adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector. However, VP64-based CRISPRa often exerts modest activation to the target gene when only one sgRNA is used. Herein,

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

When overconfident traders meet feedback traders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, we develop a model in which overconfident market participants and rational speculators trade against trend-chasers. We exhibit the unique linear equilibrium and assess the quality of prices according to the proportion of the different ...

Mean field analysis of a spatial stochastic model of a gene regulatory network

open access: yes, 2015
A gene regulatory network may be defined as a collection of DNA segments which interact with each other indirectly through their RNA and protein products.
