Effect of weight gain on blood pressure in Ugandan persons with HIV on dolutegravir/lamivudine/ tenofovir disoproxil fumarate over 48 weeks.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
BackgroundMost people living with HIV in low and middle-income countries are taking fixed dose combination tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/lamivudine/dolutegravir (TLD).

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Monotonicity and positive invariance of linear systems over dioids

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper, we make connections between two apparently different concepts. The first concept is the (linear) monotonicity of a given matrix which is usually used in order to compare Markov chains.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Dynamics of a piecewise linear map with a gap

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, we consider periodic solutions of discontinuous non-smooth maps. We show how the fixed points of a general piecewise linear map with a discontinuity ('a map with a gap') behave under parameter variation.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

An Assessment of the Effect of HIV and ART on Cardiovascular Risk Factors to Predict Retinal Microvascular Impairment in Pregnant Women: A Pilot Study in a South African Population

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Diseases
Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and antiretroviral therapy (ART) are known to be involved in cardiovascular disease development. They act alongside systemic risk factors, which interact with both macrovascular and microvascular vessels to ...
