Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Baseline Regional Cholinergic Denervation Predicts Cognitive Trajectories in Moderate Parkinson Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cognitive decline is a disabling and variable feature of Parkinson disease (PD). While cholinergic system degeneration is linked to cognitive impairments in PD, most prior research reported cross‐sectional associations. We aimed to fill this gap by investigating whether baseline regional cerebral vesicular acetylcholine transporter ...

Existence and uniqueness of positive solution to a new class of nonlocal elliptic problem with parameter dependency

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems
In this paper, we prove that under weak assumptions on the reaction terms and diffusion coefficients, a positive solution exists for a one-dimensional case and a positive radial solution to a multidimensional case of a nonlocal elliptic problem ...

On the effect of anisotropy on stellar models

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2018
The relevance of anisotropy in compact models is shown by the construction of a stellar model, this can influence the behavior of density, pressure and speed of sound in such grade that if the anisotropy disappear it could produce a regular model of ...

Paramagnetic Rim Lesions Are Associated With Trans‐Synaptic Degeneration of the Visual Pathway in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Retrograde trans‐synaptic degeneration (rTSD) from posterior visual pathway lesions in multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by hemi‐macular ganglion cell‐inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thinning and contralateral visual field loss.

On the existence of positive radial solutions for nonlinear elliptic equations in annular domains

open access: yes, 1989
We study the existence of positive radially symmetric solutions of Δu + g(¦x¦)f(u) = 0 in annulus with Dirichlet (Dirichlet/Neumann) boundary conditions.

Positive radial solutions for Dirichlet problems in the ball

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis
We are concerned with existence, localization and multiplicity of positive radial solutions to Dirichlet problems with Ø-Laplacians in a ball, in both scalar and system cases. Our approach essentially relies on fixed point index computations and a main feature is that it avoids any Harnack type inequality.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.
