Multiple positive solutions of some Fredholm integral equations arisen from nonlocal boundary-value problems

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2002
By applying the Krasnoselskii's fixed point theorem on a suitable cone, several existence results for multiple positive solutions of a Fredholm integral equation are provided.

Positive Solutions for Coupled Nonlinear Fractional Differential Equations

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2014
We consider the existence of positive solutions for a coupled system of nonlinear fractional differential equations with integral boundary values. Assume the nonlinear term is superlinear in one equation and sublinear in the other equation.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Explicit integral criteria for the existence of positive solutions of first order linear delay equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2016
It is well known that the linear differential equation $\dot{x}(t)+p(t)x(t-\tau (t))=0$ with continuous delay $\tau \colon \lbrack t_{0}-r,\infty )\rightarrow (0,r]$, $r>0$, $t_{0}\in \mathbb{R}$, and $p\colon \lbrack t_{0},\infty )\rightarrow (0,\infty )

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Existence of solutions of systems of Volterra integral equations via Brezis-Browder arguments

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2011
We consider two systems of Volterra integral equations $$ u_i(t)=h_i(t) + int_{0}^{t}g_i(t,s)f_i(s,u_1(s),u_2(s),dots, u_n(s))ds, quad 1leq ileq n $$ where t is in the closed interval $[0,T]$, or in the half-open interval $[0,T)$.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Existence and Nonexistence of Positive Solutions for Coupled Riemann-Liouville Fractional Boundary Value Problems

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2016
We investigate the existence and nonexistence of positive solutions for a system of nonlinear Riemann-Liouville fractional differential equations with two parameters, subject to coupled integral boundary conditions.
