3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Morphological and Mechanical Symmetry of the Quadriceps and Hamstrings in Athletes

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Sports performance can be influenced by several multifactorial conditions. Symmetries between sides can interfere with muscle strength, impacting performance. Balance in morphological aspects and muscle strength is desirable between dominant (DO) and non-

Excitability of Upper Layer Circuits Relates to Torque Output in Humans

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2019
The relation between primary motor cortex (M1) activity and (muscular) force output has been studied extensively. Results from previous studies indicate that activity of a part of yet unidentified neurons in M1 are positively correlated with increased ...

Base force/torque sensing for position based Cartesian impedance control

open access: yes2009 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2009
In this paper, a position based impedance controller (i.e. admittance controller) is designed by utilizing measurements of a force/torque sensor, which is mounted at the robot's base. In contrast to conventional force/torque sensing at the end-effector, placing the sensor at the base allows to implement a compliant behavior of the robot not only with ...

Fractional Skyrmion Tubes in Chiral‐Interfaced 3D Magnetic Nanowires

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In chiral 3D helical magnetic nanowires, the coupling between the geometric and magnetic chirality provides a way to create topological spin states like vortex tubes. Here, it is demonstrated how the breaking of this coupling in interfaced 3D nanowires of opposite chirality leads to even more complex topological spin states, such as fractional ...

Investigation on frictional characteristic of deep-groove ball bearings subjected to radial loads

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
Radial load is of great significant influence on friction characteristic and fatigue life of rolling bearings. A frictional torque analysis was performed on the radially loaded SKF-6205 deep-groove ball bearings.

Real-Time Multirate Filtering of Digitized Torque Signals on Tiva Microcontroller using Fixed-Point Design with MATLAB

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2021
Correct bone screw torque is critical for positive patient outcomes after orthopaedic surgery. Models of the screwing process have been developed to allow a smart screwdriver to optimise the insertion torque.

Enhancing CoFe Catalysts with V2CTX MXene‐Derived Materials for Anion Exchange Membrane Electrolyzers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MXene dervied CoFe composites show increased initial Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER) activity compared to the pure CoFe and MXene in an Anion Exchange Membrane device. Vanadium vacancies in the MXene plays a role in increased OER activity and hinders Fe leaching in the AEM device over using the pure V2C MXene as a support material for the CoFe ...

Position control under simultaneous limited torque and speed of a torque-driven nonlinear rotational mechanism

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2016
This paper deals with shaft displacement regulation (position control) of a torque-driven nonlinear gravity unbalanced mechanism under both prescribed bounded torque and speed. This is a novel control objective formulation for mechanisms. A nonlinear dynamic controller to resolve this control formulation is proposed.

Prospects of Electric Field Control in Perpendicular Magnetic Tunnel Junctions and Emerging 2D Spintronics for Ultralow Energy Memory and Logic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electric control of magnetic tunnel junctions offers a path to drastically reduce the energy requirements of the device. Electric field control of magnetization can be realized in a multitude of ways. These mechanisms can be integrated into existing spintronic devices to further reduce the operational energy.
