Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Surface interpolation using partial differentiation equation with positivity preserving cubic Said-Ball curves boundary condition

open access: yes, 2013
This paper proposes the sufficient conditions for positivity preserving cubic boundary curves defined on rectangular grid using polynomial solution of fourth order linear PDEs in order to improve the positivity preserving of the interpolating surface. We

A Positivity-Preserving Numerical Scheme for Nonlinear Option Pricing Models

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
A positivity-preserving numerical method for nonlinear Black-Scholes models is developed in this paper. The numerical method is based on a nonstandard approximation of the second partial derivative.

Positivity Preserving Technique for the Solution of HIV/AIDS Reaction Diffusion Model With Time Delay

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
This study is concerned with finding a numerical solution to the delay epidemic model with diffusion. This is not a simple task as variables involved in the model exhibit some important physical features. We have therefore designed an efficient numerical

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Positivity-preserving scheme for two-dimensional advection-diffusion equations including mixed derivatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this work, we propose a positivity-preserving scheme for solving two-dimensional advection-diffusion equations including mixed derivative terms, in order to improve the accuracy of lower-order methods.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

On positive approximations of positive diffusions

open access: yesLietuvos Matematikos Rinkinys, 2007
For positive diffusions, we construct split-step second-order weak approximations preserving the positivity property. For illustration, we apply the construction to some popular stochastic differential equations such as Verhulst, CIR, and CKLS equations.
