Active plasmon injection scheme for subdiffraction imaging with imperfect negative index flat lens

open access: yes, 2017
We present an active physical implementation of the recently introduced plasmon injection loss compensation scheme for Pendry's non-ideal negative index flat lens in the presence of realistic material losses and signal-dependent noise.

Post-processing long pairwise alignments [PDF]

open access: yesBioinformatics, 1999
Abstract Motivation: The local alignment problem for two sequences requires determining similar regions, one from each sequence, and aligning those regions. For alignments computed by dynamic programming, current approaches for selecting similar regions may have potential flaws.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Loudspeaker Equalization with Post-Processing [PDF]

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2002
Summary: Loudspeaker equalization is an essential technique in audio system design. A well-known equalization scheme is based on the deconvolution of the desired equalized response with the measured impulse response of the loudspeaker. In this paper, a postprocessing scheme is combined with the deconvolution-based algorithm to provide a better ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Impact of abscisic acid treatment on postharvest storage quality and volatile flavor substances in blueberries

open access: yeseFood
To investigate the impact of abscisic acid (ABA) on the postharvest flavor and quality of blueberries, this study employed different concentrations of ABA (400 μM ABA, 600 μM ABA, and 800 μM ABA) to treat the blueberries.

Monaural Singing Voice Separation with Skip-Filtering Connections and Recurrent Inference of Time-Frequency Mask

open access: yes, 2017
Singing voice separation based on deep learning relies on the usage of time-frequency masking. In many cases the masking process is not a learnable function or is not encapsulated into the deep learning optimization.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Post-processing of association rules. [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we situate and motivate the need for a post-processing phase to the association rule mining algorithm when plugged into the knowledge discovery in databases process.

Tunable magnetism on the lateral mesoscale by post-processing of Co/Pt heterostructures

open access: yes, 2015
Controlling magnetic properties on the nm-scale is essential for basic research in micro-magnetism and spin-dependent transport, as well as for various applications such as magnetic recording, imaging and sensing.
