Post-transcriptional regulation of connexins
Biochemical Society Transactions, 2015Gap junctions allow intercellular communication. Their structural subunits are four-transmembrane proteins named connexins (Cxs), which can be post-transcriptionally regulated by developmental and cellular signalling cues. Cx translation and mRNA stability is regulated by miRNAs and RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) such as human antigen R (HuR). In addition,

Post-transcriptional regulation of myelin formation
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Regulatory Mechanisms, 2008Myelin is a specialized structure of the nervous system that both enhances electrical conductance and protects neurons from degeneration. In the central nervous system, extensively polarized oligodendrocytes form myelin by wrapping cellular processes in a spiral pattern around neuronal axons.

Post‐transcriptional regulation in root development
WIREs RNA, 2014Plants constantly adapt their root system to the changing environmental conditions. This developmental plasticity is underpinned by changes in the profile of the mRNA expressed. Here we review how post‐transcriptional modulation of gene expression control root development and growth.

Post-transcriptional Regulation of Glucocorticoid Function
2015Glucocorticoids (GCs) are corticosteroid hormones critically involved in the homeostatic control of stress and immune responses. Endogenous GCs generally tend to support the innate immune responses while inhibiting overexpressed adaptive immune responses.

Post-transcriptional gene regulation in chondrocytes
Biochemical Society Transactions, 2010The control of gene expression in articular chondrocytes is an essential factor in maintaining the homoeostasis of extracellular matrix synthesis and turnover necessary in healthy articular cartilage. Although much is known of how steady-state levels of gene expression and rates of transcription are altered, there has been a poorer understanding of ...

Post-transcriptional Regulation of VEGF-A
2015Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGF-A) is a secreted growth and survival factor that binds to endothelial cells and plays a critical role in the induction of angiogenic processes. It is essential for embryonic development and during adulthood plays a key role in physiological processes that require angiogenesis, such as the growth and ...

An update on post‐transcriptional regulation of retrotransposons
FEBS Letters, 2022Retrotransposons, including LINE‐1, Alu, SVA, and endogenous retroviruses, are one of the major constituents of human genomic repetitive sequences. Through the process of retrotransposition, some of them occasionally insert into new genomic locations by a copy–paste mechanism involving RNA intermediates.

Post-transcriptional regulation of mitochondrial function
Current Opinion in Physiology, 2018RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) can control each step of the mRNA life cycle, such as splicing, nuclear export, stability, degradation, localization, and translation efficiency. Thus, RBPs can modulate the final amount of protein level and play an important role in fine-tuning many cellular processes.

Post-transcriptional regulation of gag in gammaretroviruses
2012We discovered that the expression of gammaretroviral gag-only results in a distinct reduction of Pr65Gag compared to gag-pol. We found out that the efficient expression of gag-only depends on the pol sequence, acting in cis and on RNA level. The pol sequence contributes to the nuclear export and stability of the unspliced transcript. We showed that the
