Research Progress on the Methodological System for Decomposition Stage Classification in Forensic Medicine

open access: yesFayixue Zazhi
Accurate classification of postmortem decomposition stages is a critical step in estimating the postmortem interval (PMI) and tracing the initial decomposition environment. Research on the decomposition staging methodological system is gradually shifting

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Estimation of Postmortem Interval Using Various Markers in the Liver of Adult Albino Rats (Targeting the PTEN/FasL Signaling Pathway) [PDF]

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Forensic Sciences and Applied Toxicology
Estimation of time since death is one of the challenges in forensic science. Autolysis triggers decomposition, which induces cellular destructive changes causing cell death. Aim: This work aimed to study mRNA expression based on the process of cell death

Postmortem Ocular Findings in the Optical Coherence Tomography Era: A Proof of Concept Study Based on Six Forensic Cases

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2021
Postmortem analysis of the ocular globe is an important topic for forensic pathology and transplantology. Although crucial elements may be gathered from examining cadaveric eyes, the latter do not routinely undergo in-depth analysis.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

An investigation of postmortem urotensin II receptor levels in brain and kidney tissues in a rat model of cardiac ischemia

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Science and Medicine, 2018
This study aimed to investigate changes in postmortem urotensin II receptor (UTR) levels in brain and kidney tissues in a rat model of cardiac ischemia. The rats were divided into two groups: a control group and a cardiac ischemia-induced group.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Impact of high intensity ultrasound on the quality and preservation period of blue shrimp (Litopenaeus stylirostris) muscle

open access: yesJournal of Fisheries
Due to the limited shelf life of aquatic products, the use of advanced technologies to extend their freshness has become more popular recently. This study aimed to assess the impact of high-intensity ultrasound (HIU) on the quality of blue shrimp ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
