Facilitatory actions of guanidine on synaptic transmission in mammalian brain slices [PDF]
Guanidine administration may be beneficial in the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and related diseases; however, the actions of guanidine on the mammalian central nervous system have not been investigated.

Characteristics of long-duration inhibitory postsynaptic potentials in rat neocortical neurons in vitro [PDF]
1. The characteristics of long-duration inhibitory postsynaptic potentials (l-IPSPs) which are evoked in rat frontal neocortical neurons by local electrical stimulation were investigated with intracellular recordings from anin vitro slice preparation.

Synaptic plasticity and cognitive function are disrupted in the absence of Lrp4. [PDF]
Lrp4, the muscle receptor for neuronal Agrin, is expressed in the hippocampus and areas involved in cognition. The function of Lrp4 in the brain, however, is unknown, as Lrp4-/- mice fail to form neuromuscular synapses and die at birth.

Kappa Opioid Inhibition of Somatodendritic Dopamine Inhibitory Postsynaptic Currents [PDF]
In the midbrain, dopamine neurons can release dopamine somatodendritically. This results in an inhibitory postsynaptic current (IPSC) within adjacent dopamine cells that occurs by the activation of inhibitory D2autoreceptors. Kappa, but not mu/delta, opioid receptors inhibit this IPSC.

Convulsant actions of 4-aminopyridine on the guinea-pig olfactory cortex slice [PDF]
The effects of bath-applied 4-aminopyridine on neurones and extracellular potassium and calcium concentrations were recorded in slices of guinea-pig olfactory cortex. Neurones were orthodromically activated by stimulating the lateral olfactory tract.

Dopaminergic Modulation of Excitatory Postsynaptic Currents in Rat Neostriatal Neurons [PDF]
Umemiya, Masashi and Lynn A. Raymond. Dopaminergic modulation of excitatory postsynaptic currents in rat neostriatal neurons. J. Neurophysiol. 78: 1248–1255, 1997. γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-containing medium spiny neurons constitute ∼90% of the neuronal population in the neostriatum (caudate and putamen) and play an important role in motor ...

Presynaptic actions of 4-Aminopyridine and γ-aminobutyric acid on rat sympathetic ganglia in vitro [PDF]
Responses to bath-applications of 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) and -aminobutyric acid (GABA) were recorded intracellularly from neurones in the rat isolated superior cervical ganglion.

Inhibition by riluzole of glycinergic postsynaptic currents in rat hypoglossal motoneurones [PDF]
1. Riluzole has been shown to have beneficial effects in motoneurone disease, yet its effect on motoneurones is not known. To address this question, we investigated synaptic modulation by riluzole in hypoglossal motoneurones by recording glycinergic inhibitory postsynaptic currents evoked by stimulation of nearby single interneurones. 2.
