High- and low-conductance NMDA receptors are present in layer 4 spiny stellate and layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons of mouse barrel cortex

open access: yes, 2016
NMDA receptors are ion channels activated by the neurotransmitter glutamate in the mammalian brain and are important in synaptic function and plasticity, but are also found in extrasynaptic locations and influence neuronal excitability.

Parvalbumin Interneuron‐Dependent Hippocampal Neurogenesis Evoked by Prolonged Rhythmic Light Flicker

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that prolonged rhythmic 40 Hz light flicker enhances spatial learning by stimulating PV interneuron‐dependent neurogenesis. The light flicker selectively activates PV interneurons, which enhances GABAergic support for the integration of immature neurons in the adult dentate gyrus.

Stability of Negative Image Equilibria in Spike-Timing Dependent Plasticity

open access: yes, 2003
We investigate the stability of negative image equilibria in mean synaptic weight dynamics governed by spike-timing dependent plasticity (STDP). The neural architecture of the model is based on the electrosensory lateral line lobe (ELL) of mormyrid ...

Corticosterone Contributes to Context‐Triggered Retrieval of Morphine Withdrawal Memories by Acting on Basolateral Amygdala Neurons Projecting to Nucleus Accumbens Core

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Context associated with morphine withdrawal elicits an increase in serum corticosterone levels. Corticosterone participates in CTR‐MWM by acting on MR, but not GR, in the BLA. MR in BLA→NAcC neurons mediates CTR‐MWM. MR increases presynaptic glutamate release and meanwhile participates in D1 receptor‐induced increases in presynaptic glutamate release ...

Moderate AMPA receptor clustering on the nanoscale can efficiently potentiate synaptic current

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2014
The prevailing view at present is that postsynaptic expression of the classical NMDA receptor-dependent long-term potentiation relies on an increase in the numbers of local AMPA receptors (AMPARs). This is thought to parallel an expansion of postsynaptic

Color‐Filter‐Free Image Sensor Using CsPbBr3 Quantum‐Dot‐Based Tamm Plasmon Photodetector for Photonic Synapse Facial Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cutting‐edge color‐filter‐free photodetector that seamlessly integrates a monolayer perovskite quantum dots absorber by leveraging Tamm plasmon resonance enhances optical absorption through strong light–matter coupling and demonstrates synaptic‐like dynamics, enabling neuron‐inspired facial recognition.

A Neuron as a Signal Processing Device

open access: yes, 2014
A neuron is a basic physiological and computational unit of the brain. While much is known about the physiological properties of a neuron, its computational role is poorly understood.

Tonic and Transient Endocannabinoid Regulation of AMPAergic Miniature Postsynaptic Currents and Homeostatic Plasticity in Embryonic Motor Networks

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2012
Endocannabinoid signaling has been shown to mediate synaptic plasticity by retrogradely inhibiting presynaptic transmitter release in several systems.
