Ammonium toxicity and potassium limitation in yeast. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2006
DNA microarray analysis of gene expression in steady-state chemostat cultures limited for potassium revealed a surprising connection between potassium and ammonium: potassium limits growth only when ammonium is the nitrogen source.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Engineering the Next Generation of Solid State Proton Conductors: Synthesis and Properties of Ba_(3−x)K_(x)H_(x)(PO_4)_2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A new series of compounds with general chemical formula Ba_(3−x)K_(x)H_(x)(PO_4)_2 has been successfully prepared. This particular stoichiometry was targeted as a candidate solid-state proton conductor because of its anticipated structural similarity to ...

Development of models for predicting Torsade de Pointes cardiac arrhythmias using perceptron neural networks

open access: yes, 2017
Blockage of some ion channels and in particular, the hERG cardiac potassium channel delays cardiac repolarization and can induce arrhythmia. In some cases it leads to a potentially life-threatening arrhythmia known as Torsade de Pointes (TdP).
