Diversity and evolution of potato mop-top virus
Nearly complete sequences of RNA-CP and 3'-proximal RNA-TGB were determined for 43 samples of potato mop-top virus (PMTV) originating from potato tubers and field soil from Sweden, Denmark and the USA. The results showed limited diversity and no strict geographical grouping, suggesting only a few original introductions of PMTV from the Andes.

Potato Mop-Top Virus: Biology and Disease Managment
2022Potato mop-top causes dark, internal blemishes in potatoes. Because it is an emerging disease in the United States and no control measures yet exist, growers need to know the basic facts to minimize its spread. This bulletin discusses the signs and symptoms of its viral origin, the virus’s disease cycle and the management strategies that might help ...

Potato Mop-Top Virus: A Rising Threat to Potato Production Worldwide
Outlooks on Pest Management, 2021Potato mop-top virus and powdery scab disease complex are rapidly becoming a significant issue in all potato growing regions in the United States. Infection by the virus causes necrotic lesions inside the tuber. In contrast, the disease vector causes lesions on the outside of the tuber rendering the potatoes unmarketable to both the fresh market and ...

Development of diagnostic methods for potato mop-top virus and potato yellow dwarf virus in Russia
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2021Potato is an important food crop in the Russian Federation, but potato yield losses from pests and diseases in Russia are about 50%. When importing potatoes, there is a risk of spreading dangerous organisms like viruses that are absent or have restricted distribution in the territory of Russia. In this article, we discuss the potato mop-top virus (PMTV)

Ecological studies on potato mop‐top virus in Scotland
Annals of Applied Biology, 1972SUMMARYPlants with symptoms of potato mop‐top virus (PMTV) occurred in many commercial seed stocks of Arran Pilot and Red Craig's Royal potato in Scotland, but their incidence rarely exceeded 5%. In nuclear stocks of seed potatoes, most varieties examined in 1967 and 1968 were infected at one or more locality, but infected plants did not occur in all ...
