Estimation of Potential Natural Vegetation by Means of GIS

open access: yesJournal of the Japanese Institute of Landscape Architects, 1992

Are potential natural vegetation maps a meaningful alternative to neutral landscape models?

open access: yes, 2002
In this paper, we present a short overview of neutral landscape models traditionally adopted in the landscape ecological literature to differentiate landscape patterns that are the result of simple random processes from patterns that are generated from ...

Droplet Electricity Generators With Maximized Energy Collection Zone Enabled by Aloe‐Inspired Midrib and Cuticle

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An Aloe‐pinspired droplet electricity generator (A‐DEG) overcomes the limited energy collection zone of conventional DEGs by guiding impact droplets through a channeling midrib and artificial cuticle. The channeling midrib induces uni‐directional droplet spreading, while the artificial cuticle on the midrib further reinforces this behavior through its ...

Reference vegetation for restoration? Three vegetation maps compared across 76 nature reserves in Uganda and Kenya

open access: yesEcosphere
Forest and landscape restoration are increasingly popular nature‐based solutions to mitigate climate change and safeguard biodiversity. Restoration planning and monitoring implies that a reference ecosystem has been defined to which the restored site can

Cornus Mas L. Seed‐Derived Biosorbent for Methylene Blue Removal: Surface Characterization and Biosorption Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Cornus mas L. seeds are transformed into a high‐performance biosorbent through chemical modification, effectively removing methylene blue from aqueous solutions. Comprehensive characterization and optimization reveal a maximum biosorption capacity of 71.71 mg g−1, establishing this sustainable, cost‐effective material as a promising solution for ...

The seed bank of subtropical grasslands with contrasting land-use history in southern Brazil

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica, 2015
The expansion of land use for agriculture is among the main reasons for the reduction of natural grasslands around the world, and little is known about the recovery potential of original native grassland vegetation from seed banks.
