A systematic review and meta-analysis of toxic elements exposure and risk of prostate cancer

open access: yesEnvironmental Sciences Europe
Background The evidence on exposure to potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and the risk of prostate cancer has been inconsistent and somewhat unclear.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Developing a GIS-Database and Risk Index for Potentially Polluting Marine Sites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The increasing availability of geospatial marine data provides an opportunity for hydrographic offices to contribute to the identification of “Potentially Polluting Marine Sites” (PPMS).

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Characterization and expression analysis of Staphylococcus aureus pathogenicity island 3 - Implications for the evolution of staphylococcal pathogenicity islands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We describe the complete sequence of the 15.9-kb staphylococcal pathogenicity island 3 encoding staphylococcal enterotoxin serotypes B, K, and Q. The island, which meets the generally accepted definition of pathogenicity islands, contains 24 open reading

Assessment of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) concentrations in Maize as an animal feed in Tehran, Iran

open access: yesApplied Food Research
Maize (Zea mays L.) is a popular livestock feed as well as a good accumulator of toxic elements. Considering the potential for toxic elements to transfer from animal feed to human body through the food chain, along with the carcinogenic characteristics ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Study Of An Alternative For Loads Remediation Contaminants In Soils, From Agricultural Activities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
La contaminación de los suelos por elementos potencialmente tóxicos se ha incrementado considerablemente, como consecuencia del empleo intensivo de agroquímicos, de los residuos generados por actividades de minería, fundición y del riego con aguas ...

Determination of the bioavailability of barley grains for selected elements

open access: yesScientific Reports
Potentially toxic elements selected elements pose a risk of contamination and intoxication of agricultural soil. Such contamination is closely linked to threats to human health, as the bioavailability of these elements allows their transfer from crops ...
