A novel reinforcement learning-based approach for short-term load and price forecasting in energy markets

open access: yesScientific Reports
Short-term forecasting of energy load and price is vital for the stability and cost-effectiveness of modern smart grids. This article introduces a novel Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) based method that models forecasting as an MDP with a customized ...

Coupling-Independent Capacitive Wireless Power Transfer Using Frequency Bifurcation

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Capacitive wireless power transfer can be realized by mutually coupled capacitors operating at a common resonant frequency. An optimal load exists that maximizes either the efficiency or the power transfer to the load.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Testing the Efficiency of Electricity Markets Using a New Composite Measure Based on Nonlinear TS Tools

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In this paper we examine and compare the efficiency of four European electricity markets (NordPool, Italian, Spanish and Greek) of different microstructure and level of maturity, by testing the weak form of the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH).

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Completely Independent Spanning Trees in k-Th Power of Graphs

open access: yesDiscussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory, 2018
Let T1, T2, . . . , Tk be spanning trees of a graph G. For any two vertices u, v of G, if the paths from u to v in these k trees are pairwise openly disjoint, then we say that T1, T2, . . . , Tk are completely independent. Araki showed that the square of

Investigating the financial closure of projects within the South African renewable energy independent power producer procurement programme

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Industrial Engineering, 2014
South Africa may have a generation capacity shortage in the near future. The Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) is playing an important role in creating generation capacity to fulfil future demand requirements ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Signal Processing for Transient Flow Rate Determination: An Analytical Soft Sensor Using Two Pressure Signals

open access: yesSignals
Accurate knowledge of the flow rate is essential for hydraulic systems, enabling the calculation of hydraulic power when combined with pressure measurements. These data are crucial for applications such as predictive maintenance.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...
