Enhancing the Fuel Efficiency of Cogeneration Plants by Fuel Oil Afterburning in Exhaust Gas before Boilers

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Cogeneration or combined heat and power (CHP) has found wide application in various industries because it very effectively meets the growing demand for electricity, steam, hot water, and also has a number of operational, environmental, economic ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Toxicity of a gasoline engine for small-scale mechanization

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Engineering Research, 2023
The single-cylinder, four-stroke, overhead valve Biggs Stratton engine was studied for the possible toxinity with the view of solving the environmental pollution problem related to the internal combustion engine emissions.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Experiments on plasma detachment in a V-shaped slot divertor in the DIII-D tokamak

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Experiments in DIII-D demonstrate that the upstream plasma density to detach an un-pumped slot divertor is similar for a V-shaped and a flat-end slot, despite significantly higher neutral pressure in the V-shaped slot and in contrast to SOLPS-ITER ...
