The quasi-continuous exhaust regime in JET

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The quasi-continuous exhaust (QCE) regime is a regime that is naturally type-I ELM-free. It combines the high density at the plasma edge needed for power exhaust with the high normalised energy confinement typical for H-mode operation.

Market Power in the Global Economy: The Exhaustion and Protection of Intellectual Property [PDF]

open access: yesThe Economic Journal, 2012
This paper analyzes economic linkages between the exhaustion and protection of intellectual property. We consider a North-South model, where a …rm that enjoys monopoly status in the North by virtue of an intellectual property right (IPR) –such as a patent or a trademark –has the incentive to price discriminate internationally because Northern consumers

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Cross-code comparison of the edge codes SOLPS-ITER, SOLEDGE2D and UEDGE in modelling a high-power neon-seeded scenario in the DTT

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
In this work, we cross-compare the state-of-the-art edge plasma codes SOLPS-ITER, SOLEDGE2D, and UEDGE in a reactor-relevant neon-seeded Divertor Tokamak Test scenario at nominal power, extending the simplified test-bed of Moscheni et al (2022 Nucl ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Advancing SOLPS-ITER validation with TCV L-mode discharges

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
This work advances the quantitative validation of SOLPS-ITER against Tokamak à Configuration Variable ( TCV ) ohmic L-mode discharges. It shows that the treatment of the ion parallel heat flux limiter and the assumptions adopted for chemical sputtering ...
