Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

On the prime power factorization of n!

open access: yesJournal of Number Theory, 2003
In this paper we prove two results. The first theorem uses a paper of Kim \cite{K} to show that for fixed primes $p_1,...,p_k$, and for fixed integers $m_1,...,m_k$, with $p_i\not|m_i$, the numbers $(e_{p_1}(n),...,e_{p_k}(n))$ are uniformly distributed modulo $(m_1,...,m_k)$, where $e_p(n)$ is the order of the prime $p$ in the factorization of $n ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Factorization of powers in C-monoids

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 2006
For commutative, cancellative monoids \(H\) the authors consider the set of lengths of a given \(a\in H\) \[ L(a)=\{n\in\mathbb{N}\mid a\text{ has a factorization into \(n\) irreducible elements of }H\}. \] If \(L(a)\) is nonempty for every non-unit \(a\in H\), then \(H\) is called atomic. Power Factor Improvement

open access: yes, 1979
Power factor control is a necessary ingredient in any successful Energy Management Program. Many companies are operating with power factors of 70% or less and are being penalized through the electrical utility bill.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Rectificador monofásico con corrección del factor de potencia usando un convertidor Boost

open access: yesTecnura, 2012
This paper shows a mathematical model and corresponding controller design of a 24W DC-DC Boost converter used for power factor correction. Modeling and simulations are shown (using Matlab) together with experimental results.

Thermoelectric characteristics of Co3(BO3)2 and NaF-substituted Bi2Sr2Co2Oy prepared via a sol-gel route

open access: yesJournal of Physics Communications
The discovery of thermoelectric cobaltites initiated a systematic exploration of these materials for potential applications in thermoelectric generators, which convert waste heat into electricity.
